Honest and true ambition that benefits a nation cannot be taught. It cannot even be taught by trickery, like when one flaunts ones accomplishments and achievements in an arrogant fashion. What is only taught in this case is the arrogance. And the arrogance coupled with a lack of true achievement leads to failure in societies.
So how can one teach ambition if it cannot be taught? By periodically giving someone reasonable expectations of what they are capable of accomplishing. Those who will then have learned to have ambition can compare where they are as opposed to where they have been. This gives them a sense of achievement and also is the seed of ambition.
