A temperature sensor mounted so that it measures the temperature where the tooth is being ground so that it doesn't get so hot that nerve pain is felt.
Much like how a common and inexpensive laser thermometer works, but compact and integral to the "drill".
I would assert that there is likely a temperature created by drilling friction, whereby nerve pain is felt. And that such a device would make for better dentists.
