So it became legal to advertise beer on television in 1996. Clinton was President then. And apparently it became legal to advertise hard liquor on television then too.
And it seems like that was more recently than 1996.
So if you took a marketing class in college you would know that they study psychology better than anyone in order to create advertisements for you to buy their products. They do indeed have codified checklists and manipulative techniques that are subliminal.
But at the same time alcohol consumption in the United States is at an all time low since the statistic was created in ~1939.
Does it have to do with the statement by government that alcohol causes cancer?
Or is the reason that people can see right through the lies of advertising. They look around at how the product ruined the lives of people around them? And they no longer believe in the advertising! The advertising no longer influences their behavior. As if they have built a wall to it? As if they view it with utter contempt.
To me the gist of it is, "Who people no longer believe in."
And that is a great thing. And the start of many great things.
