That if you say the exact opposite of what you have previously said, people on both sides of the issue will want to believe in you?
It has to do with people believing people are generally good?
If you do as per the above you can say anything and never be wrong? You never have to have your own conscience or lack of it weigh down on you? You don't have to get down on yourself because you don't understand things you should?
Somehow you will understand when those you have offended give you a good talking to?
In effect if you do that you can say you were right on every single issue! And perhaps if the historians were on your side all along, only the right side will be written in the history books and the wrong side disregarded?
Is it a way to please everyone? No, it is more of a non working class way to not have to please anyone.
