Whenever I read about solar technology it is always, “This new technology will cut the cost by half when implemented.”
What we need to do today is set the framework up in this country to use whatever solar panels are available. What does that mean? It means that we put the structures in place to accept solar panels. It means we put in the grid work and inverters.
What else does it mean? It means that we need to standardize the sizes of solar panels so that they can be replaced with any brand. Meaning all manufacturers who want to participate would carry the standard size brand.
Now here is how we upgrade our homes rather quickly. Instead of waiting for shingles and other new systems to be developed we institute that solar panels must be made available in the standard sizes that fit the gap between the roof studs. These panels must also be structure bearing. That means that they have metal cross braces spaced at a standard distance of one foot and are at least 1/8” thick and two inches wide. These new standardized solar panels must also be waterproof, that means a seamless understructure, most likely thin sheet metal.
What else must they be? They must overlap at the roofing joist, somewhat like how siding overlaps. A layer of caulk could then be laid down the length of one joist and the next panels are laid down with that side sealing. That seam can also be pocket and groove like.
Then what happens? Very quickly, roofs are replaced by stripping them down to their skeletal framework and lying on the panels on at a time. This process would go very fast. Your roof running boards could be stripped away so that there are only one every two feet. And then as a roofer works his way from one end to the other the complete gaps are cut and the panels laid in and fixed to the structure making it sound again as it is formed. The solar panel could have one access point underneath them with regard to electronic connections. So the electrical hookup would be independent of the roof installation.
Design artists could also use their extreme imaginations to make them look traditional or give them a more modern and appealing look.
That is the easy way to handle a problem that seem to baffle everyone.
And your politicians for some reason could never conceive of such things. Makes you wonder why we pay them?
It is always like we’ll wait for something better to come along otherwise we will just procrastinate. What are we waiting for thermonuclear war? It is almost like all our politicians and television personalities can concern themselves with are where to stick our needles in, in terms of foreign policy. Our foreign policy should be one of leadership at home. We do not need to get involved with who’s good and who’s bad. Why not? Because we have always been wrong.
I looked at a picture in the morning paper of Syrian children. They look so innocent of any evil or intent of evil. One could not help but sympathize for them. How children should look. How children used to look here. And somehow our American media has propagandized these people to be savages. I believe what I see. When I look at the typical American dark haired child I see something that is the exact opposite and repulsive. Our American media would tell us that we must go over there and grab some neighbors and water board torture them. They have figured out a way to do the same thing in the United States without getting caught. I do not want to be a part of an America that is this evil, it is sickening.
