Expressing yourself to combat the voices 11 12 2014
When you tell them outright (articulation through text too) it isn't as powerful as when you allow them to come to the logical conclusion on their own; by laying out the premises to that point.
Why?
These are people who are used to falsely rationalizing that punishment doesn't apply to them! They are used to being lectured to and then rapidly ignoring the meaning of it! -Scoffing it off!
But someone always has to play a lead role in telling it to them outright, so that when you lead them to the same place with accurate premises it is impactful to them.
The worse thing that you can do to them is find a way to abandon them!
